Mexi-Cali Wedding Inspiration (styled shoot)

Mexi-Cali Wedding Inspiration (styled shoot)

I’m super excited to blog about this amazing shoot we did with talented CJ Thomas Photography and our AMAZING dream team of vendors at Quail Haven Farm. Coming up on Cinco De Mayo, I wanted to do something that was bold and colorful, a bit different than the lighter colors of spring. Fox Floral Design provided the gorgeous, bold flowers for the shoot. We used Cedar & Pine Event’s farmhouse tables and benches – and boy are they gorgeous! Sidenote: since the shoot, they’ve also created belly bars to match this existing set – you guys have to check them out. Cheri’s Vintage Table provided colored glassware for a pop of color to pair with her lovely plateware and vintage silverware. I was really excited to go dress shopping for the shoot. The dresses at D’Angelo Couture are absolutely beautiful. The dress used at the shoot was custom designed by the owner, Diane D’Angelo, and was taken to NY Bridal Fashion week just two days after the shoot to be worn on the runway (how cool is that!?). The cake and dessert bar was custom designed by none other than the talented Jenny Williams of JennyWenny Cakes. To keep with the Mexi-Cali theme, the cake incorporated elements of Mexican culture, including sugar skulls (Día de Muertos) and paper picados. Jenny also created cinnamon flavored macaroons, sugar skull cookies and Mexican wedding cookies for the dessert bar as well. Special shoutouts to Friar Tux (groom’s tux), Dalana Rattler (makeup), and I Invite You (paper goods and paper picados – the paper picados were a fun and playful addition to the sweetheart table).

Love Marks the Spot’s Best of 2015 in Review

Wow – 2015 has been QUITE the year! I’m so thankful to have worked with so many amazing couples and talented vendors this year. Before we start on weddings, I think it is important to recap a few internal notes that were imperative to our success this year:

A special thank you to our interns that were with us all year, Mesha and Nini. Mesha has graduated to become an Associate Planner within LMTS for 2016 (yay!) and Nini has moved on to persue a career in dance (can’t wait to see her on So You Think You Can Dance in 2017!). We also welcomed a few new interns: Ashlee (former bride turned friend/intern!), Phoenix and Veronica to our team. Together we make quite the team, and I’m so excited for the new additions and continued growth of the team. I’m extremely proud/happy to say that we’re recipients of The Knot’s Best of 2016 Weddings and WeddingWire’s Couple’s Choice Awards. It makes ME so happy to know that we’ve made our CLIENTS so happy. We’re looking to soar to new heights in 2016, and I just wanted to take a moment to recognize (and thank) the great team we have in place, as well as the awesome vendor’s we’ve worked with (you guys rock, and thank you for making our jobs easier and much more FUN)!

So without further adieu, here are some of our favorites from 2016:

Favorite Dress

Favorite Getting Ready Moment:

San Diego Wedding PlannerAny bride knows that getting ready is probably the most stressful time of your wedding day. With everyone crowded into the bride’s suite, food and drinks out and clothes/shoes sprinkled around, there’s a lot going on. That’s why we love this photo by Justice Photography (yes again, because Sage is that amazing and we love him). It removes the bride (Ashlee) from the chaos, and we have a wonderful shot of the bride alone, reflecting. Fun fact – Ashlee’s groom was at the opposite side of the hotel, so she had her BMs check to confirm he was not on his balcony and wouldn’t see them shooting this photo.

Favorite Flowers

Every time I think of the flowers at Amanda’s wedding, I swoon. They were gorgeous!! Her entire wedding was gorgeous. Carla Kayes Floral Design did a wonderful job creating the best floral aesthetic we’ve seen all year. Photo credit to Allie Lindsey Photography.

Best Kiss

Screen Shot 2015-07-17 at 9.13.38 PMRight as Travis and Alissa were pronounced husband and wife, it started pouring down rain (though you’d never be able to tell from their kiss!). If you look really hard at this photo, you can see rain splatters all over Travis’s suit jacket, and guests popping up their umbrellas in the background. Photo by Meghan G Photography.

Favorite Candid Moment

IMG_4942Seeing the bride & groom walk back down the aisle together after being pronounced husband and wife is one of my favorite moments at each wedding. I LOVE that you can see how happy Whitney & Matt are in this photo, he’s even giving someone a thumb’s up! Love it! Photo credit to Hannah Costello.

Favorite Escort Card Alternative

Ryan&Mel_Wedding_PhotogFav-119We loved Melissa & Ryan’s idea to use Polaroid photos as escort cards. Melissa had wedding guests send over the photo they wanted used in advance, and it turned out great if we do say so ourselves! Photo credit to Local Focus Photography.

Favorite Guestbook Alternative

IMG_5897Jacky & Ryan’s beer cap guestbook fit right in with their wedding at Green Flash Brewery. Guests were asked to sign beer caps and press them in according to where they’re from on their US shaped guestbook. Photo credit to Hannah Costello.

Favorite Wedding Theme

0071Brittany_Adam_pfOur team unanimously loved Brittany & Adam’s nautical So-Cal themed wedding. The tables were outfitted with navy blue pintuck linens, and all of the centerpieces had hints of succulents, driftwood, fish and bottles. It was absolutely gorgeous! Photo credit to True Photography.

Thank you all again so much for your love and support in 2015 – we’ll see you next year!

Hot Wedding Trends You’re Sure to See More of

Hello, My Friends! It seems like I have had the pleasure of focusing more on the wedding design aspect of wedding planning lately! I’ve found some really awesome trends that are catching on that I wanted to share with you all, and a couple I’m hoping will catch.

San Diego Wedding Planner

Here are my thoughts on above, starting at the upper left corner and moving clockwise:

(1) New and improved photobooth props – just when you didn’t think a photobooth experience could get any more fun. Don’t get me wrong – mustaches and giant lips are loads of fun…but so is being a princess or villain! I also love the fact that you can purchase chalkboard signs and personalize a message.

(2) Personalized escort cards – they’re fun, they’re cute…enough said:)

(3) Wedding games. Couples are starting to think outside of the box when it comes to keeping their guests entertained. Wedding games are a fabulous idea because not only are they fun, but they can also be used as an ice breaker to get guests who might not necessarily know each other mingling with one another.

(4) Sequin table clothes on accent tables. You really don’t need much decor – the sequins impress enough on their own! Worried about sequin scratch syndrome (okay, I totally made that up)? You can place a piece of glass over the table top to keep the surface smooth!

(5) A personalized take on the guest book. At all of the weddings I’ve done this past year, I have not once seen a guest book for guests to fill in their names. I’ve seen signable photo mattes, DIY balloon art (think the movie UP), photobooks, etc. Couples have started to veer towards options they can potential use as home decor instead of a book that gets put away for safe keeping.

(6) Favors your guests will actually use and enjoy. This includes candy buffets, wine glasses, etc. I especially am loving the idea of a Hangover Kit as shown in the photo above.

What do you guys think? I love to hear feedback or thoughts, as always.

The Great & Powerful Oz

Back in March Love Marks the Spot had the opportunity to work with an amazing team of talented industry professionals to create a Great & Powerful Oz themed wedding shoot. We came up with a fun idea to create two tables – one for Glinda the Good, and another to showcase the evil witches, Theodora and Evanora. The result was a bit different than your typical wedding shoot because we came up with two completely different looks. Wonderful things happen when a group of creative people joins forces for a good cause:) Without further delay, I am absolutely delighted to showcase some of my favorite photos from the shoot.

Wedding Themes 101

Creating a wedding theme works somewhat backwards compared to the rest of wedding planning. Close your eyes and imagine yourself on your wedding day: How are your guests dressed? Are they dressed to the nines or in cowboy hats and boots? What is your reception atmosphere like? A party rock crowded dance floor with an open bar, or laid back and paired with classic cocktails?

Keeping this “final vision” in mind will help focus on the mood and style of your wedding day.

Here is my simplified definition of a wedding theme: Color palates, textures and reoccurring motifs that are held together by a strong concept.

Now for my favorite part – examples!! Here are some wedding themes (hand picked by San Diego Wedding Planner Love Marks the Spot) that are trending in the wedding industry right how:

Vintage

San Diego Wedding Planner Vintage Wedding

Vintage weddings allow creative couples a chance to make the old new again and reinvent how the details are used in a special way that is unique to them.

Rustic

San Diego Wedding Planner Rustic Wedding

If you’re into the outdoors, creating a “homey” and comfortable atmosphere for your guests, and have an eclectic side you’d like to express, rustic weddings are for you.

Glam

For those couples who want to showcase elegance , glamour (and a bit of bling) for their big day!

Romantic

San Diego Wedding Planner Love Marks the Spot

Romantic weddings are a great way to express love in an intimate setting.

Keep in mind that no theme is set in stone. The best part about picking a theme for your wedding is that you’re allowed to fine tune it custom to your taste! If no one style fits what you’re looking for – you can also combine styles until you find something you like. 2013 Wedding Trends

One of my favorite parts of being a wedding planner is getting to stay on top of fun wedding trends. Each year brings a little something new. Some trends stick around for a while (i.e. strapless wedding gowns), while others are “out” just as quickly as they came on the scene (a la birdcage veil). 2012 saw quite a few unique trends, from chevron prints, to brooch bouquets, to mini pies and push pop cakes (yum!). So what will 2013 bring? I’ve compiled a list of a few of my thoughts:

1. Unique food. I think a lot of brides will decide to pull away from the traditional wedding-type foods. Carnival themed foods, gourmet hot dog buffets, taco stands, food trucks and s’more buffets are all delicious examples of ways for couples to treat their guests.

2. Eclectic Lighting. Lighting is one of my favorite ways to give a space that extra “wow” factor. Couples seem to be catching on to this trend more and more. Lighting can be as simple and inexpensive as colored Christmas lights that are strategically placed – or they can be an elaborate way to expand upon your wedding theme. Hanging globes, string lights, candle lights (or my personal favorite the chandelier) all work.

3. Less is More. This wedding trend may come as a relief for some. Many couples are opting for a more intimate ceremony and reception, simple floral decor and simple food choices. Simplifying your wedding is a great way to help alleviate stress and save money.
